Meet the Members Monday- Katherine

My name is Katherine and I’m married to an Army MS1. We have three children who are 5-7-9 years of age.  My husband is prior military as a pilot. I met him during flight training in New Mexico where I grew up. I was serving in the College and Career ministry at church and he had joined us one night. The rest is pretty much history. As cliché as it sounds I call wherever the military has us “home”, because it’s the place I share with my husband and children.

We were in FL for 8 years before moving here to the DC area.  Life in DC has been a wonderful change. We sure do miss the beautiful beaches in Florida though.  I love the DC area, there is so much to do, see, and explore, I love that this is our new home. We could probably do without the snow shoveling though!

I am a SAHM, and sometimes WAHM through my Love Abounds shop on Etsy and Hyena Cart online. Before I was a stay at home mom I worked as a geriatric nurse. I love being able to be at home with our kids and know that it’s a huge blessing, which I sometimes have to remind myself after I’ve swept cereal off the floor for the 4th time in one morning. As far as interests and hobbies, I like photography, party planning, writing, paper crafting, cooking, reading, and blogging at pleasegivepeasachance.blogspot.com . I’m pretty addicted to Pinterest too, does that count as a hobby?

I hope to meet more spouses at SSC events and get more plugged in!

Meet the Members Mondays- Sarah R

My name is Sarah Roberts and my husband, Haydn, is a MS2 in the Air Force.  We are from the Seattle area and met at Washington State University in a country swing bar in Moscow, Idaho.  We have been married just over two years.

I graduated with a major in Hospitality Business Management and a minor in Business Administration.  I have worked in the food service for companies like Microsoft, Boeing, Seattle Public Schools and most recently DC Public Schools as an Area Director.  I’m currently looking for a job so I have been spending my time moving into our new place and doing some of the following.

I enjoy arts and crafts, baking, cooking, dancing, happy hour, photography, power tools, reading, repurposing furniture, sewing and working out with others.  Seeing as our bed frame didn’t include a head board I got to work making one out of fence boards.  It looks so grown up.  I also like to take ideas from Pinterest and actually create them or adapt them.  Haydn just bought me some power tools so I used those to make my head board and will probably start fixing our chairs soon.  I have also created a blog, Where My Love Takes Me (wheremylovetakesme.wordpress.com), to keep friends and family up to date but it keeps veering to a craft and food blog.

This past summer we took a scuba certification class through the MWR and we were able to do our open water check out dive on vacation in Cozumel.  We had an amazing time scuba diving in 84 degree water and saw a shark, two turtles and a ton of fish.  Together we have traveled to Tijuana, Thailand, South Korea, Puerto Vallarta, Playa del Carmen, New York and a road trip to Arizona and California.  While we were in Washington we would go on hikes in the Cascades, surfing in the Pacific, sailing on a catamaran in Case Inlet and helping with the tear down crew at our church.  We also enjoy touring wineries and breweries, watching sports and going to baseball, soccer and hockey games and play board games with friends.

This year I want to run some races and take a few painting classes.  If you want to join or just want to do any of the awesome things I do, just let me know.

Meet the Members Mondays- Emily

I'm Emily and I am in charge of the Parent-Tot group for SSC.  I grew up in San Diego CA.  I enjoyed the weather especially the lower humidity.  I liked to surf with my Dad and brothers.  I am the sixth of seven children and had lots of fun growing up in a large family.  So it is only normal for me to have a large family of my own.  I just had my sixth baby in May.  I have three girls 12, 9, and 3 months, and three boys 8, 5, and 2 years old.  The 4 oldest are now in school.  It is strange having only two at home but still lots of fun!

My husband is a MS2 AF non prior so this has all been really new to us but we survived the first year and so will all the new MS1's.

We met cleaning toilets at 4 am at BYU were we both got our BS in sports medicine.  This summer we got to go back to Provo UT for my sister’s wedding and took this family picture at the LDS temple there. It was a great trip.  I look forward to meeting all the new SSC members!  Come to the parent tot activities and email me with any ideas for places to go at sscparenttot@gmail.com.
