June 22, 2012

The 4th of July is fast approaching and there are a TON of events going on around our area.  Whether you decide to camp out on the National Mall for the day or host a barbeque, here is a low-down of some of the happenings in our area.

As I’ve been consulting veteran Marylanders, the general consensus is that if you want to go see the National Fireworks you should get there early in the day to find a good spot.  See below for lots of events going on at the Mall throughout the day.  That said, I also spoke with a friend who went later in the day one year and by going closer to the Washington Monument, she and her family were able to find enough space.

If you aren’t up for the crowds, there are LOTS of firework displays throughout the state.  Check each location to double check about parking. (For example Wheaton fireworks DO NOT have on site parking.)  It seems like most fireworks start between 9:00pm and 9:30pm.

One last thing.  Fireworks are NOT LEGAL in Montgomery County. “In Montgomery County, ALL fireworks are illegal to possess or discharge including gold label sparklers. Snap-and-pop noise makers, snakes and party poppers are the only exception to this law.

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe 4th of July!

Welcome!

Hello and welcome! I'm am so excited to be writing the first ever blog post on the new USU Student Spouses Blog!

The fabulous Publications Chair, Cyndi Yoder, has created this blog in lieu of the newsletter. We felt a blog would have a much stronger readership and accessibility to not only our club members, but others who are interested in joining. You can expect to see a new post about every two weeks. If you have any ideas, or something you would like to contribute, please don't hesitate in contacting Cyndi at ssc.editor@gmail.com. She wants to hear from you, and we invite you to comment on posts too!

I want to wish everyone a happy and safe summer. I hope you get to have some fun in the sun! Our next meeting won't be until August where we will be putting the finishing touches on the Fall Carnival Party and Orientation. See you then!
