Meet the Members Mondays- Cristy H

My name is Cristy Hawkley and I am wife to an MS2 Air Force (non prior).  We made it through the first year and are looking forward to rotations where I will be following him all over the country.

I met my husband, Tyson, while studying mathematics education at BYU.  We married a little later while I was working towards my MS in statistics.  A year into that program, we got to come out here which is kind of like coming home as I grew up in Southern Maryland (Calvert County) and my family still lives there.  We have a little boy Kasen who is almost a year in November (crazy)!  So, I now get to stay at home with my little guy, but also got to teach high school math and statistics before we came out here.  I love teaching and hope to one day be able to teach high school again.

I love meeting fellow student spouses through the SSC and enjoyed planning the fall party and am looking forward to the spring party.  Other things I enjoy include:  crafts, sewing, any kind of sport (even if I stink at it), outdoors, camping.  I'm excited to meet you all throughout the year!

Meet the Members Mondays- Jeff M

Hello, My name is Jeff Mathews and my wife Sara is a MS2 in the Air Force.  We are both from Panhandle of Florida, so if you have any question about Eglin or Pensacola NAS let us know.  I work at the Bethesda NEX and my wife loves being in the Air Force and being at USU.  I am a prior service Marine, so I know both sides of the military now. It took some getting used to being on the other side, but I have no complaints.  We are getting ready for Sara’s rotations coming up in January, during which I will be traveling around the country with her.  I can’t wait to check out the bases and areas we will be going to.  My hobbies include hiking, kayaking, beard growing, and long walks to and from the metro.  Joking, being from the country I hate walking to the metro, but as you all well know driving here is crazy. I am head of the men’s group and super stoked for all the new dudes that joined this year.  The SSC is a great group with some amazing people who really care about each other.  So I hope all you new members will enjoy being a part of it.  I am also an active member of The American Legion, and VFW Veterans of Foreign Wars in the area so if any one has any questions or would like more info, I would be happy to help.  Happy Monday and enjoy fall everyone.

Meet the Members Monday- Alissa

Hi! My name is Alissa and my husband, Branden, is a 3rd year Air Force student. I have 2 daughters, a 3 year old and an almost 2 month old.  I’m from Salt Lake City, Utah, which has been my home until 2 years ago when we moved here to go to USUHS. My husband and I met each other through our siblings; my sister is married to his brother. He was living with them to attend school at the University of Utah and it was pretty much love at first sight! We've been married for 5 years now and are loving life.

I’m a stay at home mom and slowly adjusting to having 2 kids. So far I've managed to get us all dressed and fed every day so we’re doing well. I love to bake, sing, read, decorate and re-do furniture. I haven’t finished any furniture projects lately but I’m sure I’ll find something fun to paint or sew soon.

Joining the military has been quite the adventure for my family! We've loved living in Maryland and having new places to visit. We’ve also seen a lot of the country in the past year as we followed Branden around for rotations. We drove from Maryland to Jacksonville, FL, where we enjoyed a mild winter, beaches and gators. Our next location was Omaha, NE, where we enjoyed family, great steak and snow. It was fun to drive all over and visit states we've never been to before but we’re happily taking a break from travel for now.

I've loved being a part of SSC for the last 2 years and I’m excited to continue attending the activities and making new friends. I’m currently working as the SSC secretary so I’m responsible for all those emails you get each month. If you ever have questions about the area or life at USU, or if you just need a friend please email usustudentspousesclub@gmail.com, I’d love to help you in any way!
