Meet the Members Monday

Hi All! My name is Katy Good and I am the wife of a current USU student in the Graduate School of Nursing. Unlike most of the rest of the SSC members, my husband David is pursuing his Masters Degree and a career as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). His program started this May and he will graduate in December of 2014. The first year is spent here in Bethesda for the didactic portion. We will PCS to Alaska next May, where he will do the majority of his clinicals.

We met in college in the southwest and married while in nursing school. This is also when he commissioned with the United States Public Health Service (USPHS). That was 7 years ago! The day after graduation in 2006, we PCS’d to Boston where we both began our careers as RN’s. Our son Griffin (5) was born there. Two years later, we PCS’d to Flagstaff, AZ where we both worked for Indian Health Services near the Navajo reservation. Our Daughter, Rozlyn (2) was born there. In 2011, I took on a nonclinical role at the local hospital as a program coordinator while he began diligently pursuing Anesthesia school. For USPHS, the process is somewhat different and he had to secure sponsorship from a specific federal healthcare agency. This was daunting and stressful but he eventually made it happen and is currently being sponsored by an IHS site in New Mexico where we will move after he graduates.

Currently, my employer is allowing me to work remotely from home and I feel very lucky to continue with my career while still managing to support David in his endeavor and also have flexibility with my kids. Additionally, we are expecting another boy over Winter break (convenient, right?). Of course, life is hectic, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

To those who have been here awhile, thank you for your help and hospitality. To those who recently arrived, welcome! I look forward to meeting more of you. Just as soon as I can make it to a meeting....
